The theme of the Inglis Clark Centre Denison Debate held on 19 August 2014 was Tasmania’s population: on the cusp with a focus on being on the cusp of decline and the cusp of growth.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics projects that, if current trends continue, Tasmania’s population will enter decline by 2047. Reflecting this challenge, the Tasmanian Government has highlighted the need to develop policies aimed at achieving a population target of 650,000 by the year 2050.
